Block 49 (#147) Rash Promises, p. 277 &129
This one is a good candidate for paper piecing or using templates, but here are the rotary instructions for the adventurous! Oh those pesky points!
3 fabrics (navy, red and cream)
Cut 2 navy rectangles 2 11/16” X 4”. With wrong sides together on two of the rectangles with 4“ length on top and bottom, cut 45 degrees from lower left corner to top of rectangle. Cut from lower right corner to the point at top of cut rectangle. Makes mirror image triangles (A with 45 degree angle on lower right & B with 45 degree on lower left). Repeat to make 2 of each.
Cut 2 red rectangles 2 11/16” X 4”. With wrong sides together on two of the rectangles with 4“ length on top and bottom, cut 45 degrees from lower left corner to top of rectangle. Cut 2 cream squares 3 15/16” X 3 15/16”. Measure 1 13/16” along bottom from lower left corner and make a mark. Measure 1 13/16” along left side from lower left corner and make another mark. Cut from the marks to top right corner to make a ‘kite’ shape. Make 2
Cut 2 navy squares 3 15/16” X 3 15/16”. Measure 1 13/16” along bottom from lower left corner and make a mark. Measure 1 13/16” along left side from lower left corner and make another mark. Cut from the marks to top right corner to make a ‘kite’ shape. Make 2
1. Sew red A and B triangles to navy ‘kite’ (B on left, A on right side) along long edges. Repeat to make 2 large pieced triangles.
2. Sew navy A and B triangles to cream ‘kite’ (B on left, A on right side) along long edges. Repeat to make 2 large pieced triangles.
3. Sew Unit from step 1 to unit from step 2 with cream/navy triangle on the left. Repeat with remaining units from step 1 and step 2
4. Sew units from step 3 together. Done!

Civil War Anniversary #3, Block 48, Future Happiness
Block 48 (#146) Future Happiness, pg 276 & 129
Looks hard, but isn’t--just a block on-point with 3 ‘rounds’ including a saw-tooth ‘border
Fabrics: 2 greens, cheddar and cream
Cut
A. 2 rectangles green #1 1 9/16” X 3 11/16”
B. 1 square green #1 1 9/16” X 1 9/16”
C. 2 cream squares 1 9/16” X 1 9/16”
D. 2 green #2 squares 1 5/8” X 1 5/8,” cut on 1 diagonal (4 triangles)
E. 4 green #2 squares 2 11/16” X 2 11/16”, cut on both diagonals (16 triangles, you’ll have 2 triangles left over)
F. 4 cheddar squares 2 11/16” X 2 11/16”, cut on both diagonals (16 triangles, you’ll have 2 triangles left over)
G. 4 cheddar rectangles 1 9/16” X 4 3/8”, can be trimmed after sewing onto block (see below) or cut 45 degree from bottom left and bottom right, making a truncated pryamid)
1. Sew C cream square to each side of B green #1 square.
2. Sew ! Green #1 rectangles to top and bottom of step #1 unit. This is the center block that will be on-point.
3. Sew E green #2 triangles to F cheddar triangles to make half square triangles (make at total of 12)
4. Sew 3 of the HSTs from step 3 together in a row--repeat to make 4 rows
5. Sew 2 of the units from step 4 to the long green #1 sides of unit from step 2 with cheddar towards the center square.
6. Add 1 F cheddar triangle and 1 E green #2 triangles to ends of remaining 2 units from step 4 (see picture page 276 for placement)
7. Sew units from step 6 to unit from step 5 (opposite sides) to form the saw-toothed ‘border’
8. Sew cheddar G rectangles (or truncated pryamids) to each side off unit from step 7. If still rectangles, turn center section o-point and trim with 6 ½” ruler leaving ¼” from past green point of saw-tooth ‘border’.
9. Add A green #1 triangles to corners.
Done!
Only one more! I will either be early or late on that one as I’m going to spend Mother’s Day with my children and grands in Sacramento.
