Civil War Anniversary Quilts (by Rosemary Youngs), quilt #3, block 35

Block 35 (#133) Mourned the Loss of Many Brave Men and Officers, (pg. 263 & 117)

4 fabrics

Cream/tan

large floral (image)

Gold

Rust

A. Cut 4 7/8” square each of the cream/tan and image fabric--cut on 1 diagonal (you will only use 1 of each) Alt: leave as squares, draw line on diagonal, sew ¼” either side of the drawn line, cut apart--2 HSTs but you only need 1)

B. Cut 3 @ 2 7/8” squares each of the gold and rust and cut on 1 diagonal (you will have 1 triangle left over of each colour) Alt: leave as squares, draw line on diagonal, sew ¼” either side of the drawn line, cut apart--2 HSTs units from each set of squares= 6--you’ll only need 5.

1. Sew two large A triangles together

2. Sew Gold and rust triangles together to make HST. Make 5 (see note above)

3. Sew 2 of the units from step 2 together side by side (rust on bottom) and sew to top of unit from step 1 (image at lower right)

4. Sew 3 remaining units from step 2 together one a top the other (with rust on bottom) and add to unit in step 3.

Easy peasy!! 6 ½” block done!
