Civil War Anniversary quilts, quilt #3, Block 39

Block 39 (137) pg. 267 & 122Visiting With Relatives

We’ll be making 4 3 ½” square in a square in a square and sewing together as in a 4 patch

3 fabrics (red, blue, image)

A. 4 red and 4 blue squares at 3/8” cut on 1 diagonal.

B. Need 2 red and 2 blue squares 2 11/16” cut on both diagonals

C. Need 4 squares 2” of image fabric

1. Sew 4 red B triangles to each side of 2 of the C squares.

2. Sew 4 blue B triangles to each side of the remaining C squares.

3. Sew 4 large blue triangles to each side of unit from step 1

4. Sew 4 large red triangles to each side of units from step 2.

5. Units from steps 3 & 4 should measure 3 ½”. Sew these together as in a 4-patch, alternating the red/blue triangles.

Oh my, only 10 to go!!!
