Civil War Anniversary Quilts, quilt #3 Block 37

Block 37 (#135) Guarding the Signal Corps, pg. 265 & 119

3 fabrics: purple, red and tan/cream

A. Cut 4 squares at 2” of purple (corners)

B. cut 1 square @ 4 3/16 of purple and cut on both diagonals

C. Cut 4 rectangles 1 9/16” X2 5/8” tan/cream

D. Cut 1 squares at 2 11/16” in red and cut both diagonals (star points)

E. Cut 1 square @ 2 5/8” in red for center

1. Sew 2 D red triangles to the two sides of A purple squares. (see picture) Make 4

2. Sew tan/cream rectangle to base of units from step 1. Make 4

3. Sew B purple triangles to either side of 2 of units in step 2. (make 2)

4. Sew remaining units from step 2 to either side of E (red square).

5. Sew units from step 3 to each side of step 4.

Done! Congrats, a beautiful 6 ½” square.
