Civil War Anniversary Quilts, quilt #3, Block 38

#38 (136) pg. 266 (& 120) Browns Gap

We’ll be making 4 3 ½” blocks the same and sewing them together as in a 4-patch

4 fabrics (red, green, cream and brown in picture)

Cut

A. red fabric 1/½” X 5 ¾” rectangle, cut along 45degree line at 2 7/8”measurement along base. Make 4 (8 patches)

B. Green need 4 squares @ 2 7/8”, cut on one diagonal (8 patches)

C. Cream 4 squares 1 7/8” , cut on one diagonal (8 patches)

D. Brown squares 1 ½”

1. Sew 2 C cream triangles to each side of D brown square (make 4)--see picture

2. Sew2 A red pieces to top and bottom of units from step 1. Sew along long edge, see picture (make 4)

3. Sew 2 B green triangles to opposite corners of unit from step 2 (see picture), make 4

4. Units from step 3 should be 3 1/2” squares. Sew these together as in a 4 patch.
