Where Poppies Grow

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae

NIce, so many people don't know the reason for the Veterans selling poppies. I find
that difficult to believe but I know it's the truth. Hadn't read the whole poem in 45
years...maybe more. Love the wall hanging!

I've always loved that poem, and the quilt is just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing that.

This is so beautiful, and do you have a pattern for your block? Down here we remember on our ANZAC day on April 25th when there are memorial services held throughout the country, in large towns and cities, and small ones too. There are paper poppies, handmade fabric ones, knitted ones, but this is the first quilted one I have seen. The poem, written by John McCrae, I looked him up and found the reason behind his words. Greetings from Jean in New Zealand. my email is jeanmck at clear dot net dot nz
